Extracorporeal Shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a highly effective, well researched treatment, mainly used for chronic, localised tendon disorders that have not responded well to conventional treatments. It can be used for more acute conditions and for muscle and joint issues too.
The treatment works by applying energetic (not electrical) shockwaves via a hand held device to the painful area. This increases blood circulation which in turn accelerates the body’s own healing processes. It promotes the formation of healthy collagen which makes the tissues stronger. The effect of the treatment continues for up to three months, This along with a focused exercise regime will get you better faster and the area will be stronger and more resilient with less chance of reoccurrence.
Shockwave can be used for:

Treatment what to expect.
The “thudding” sensation can be a little uncomfortable especially over the main area, but most people feel better straight after treatment. Some soreness can occur the next day so it’s best to not do anything strenuous for at least the first 24 hours
Between three and nine treatments are generally needed, once or twice a week. Most people feel much better after three treatments, but if you have had the problem for a long time it will need more.
During your usual half hour session, the shock wave therapy will take about 10 minutes, other therapies, exercise advice, acupuncture, mobilisations and massage will also be carried out, to give you optimum benefit.
